I Am the Wind

When I was in High School, this was my favorite poem. In fact, I think it still is at this moment...

"I AM THE WIND"
by Zoe Akins

I am the wind that wavers,
You are the certain land;
I am the shadow that passes
Over the sand.

I am the leaf that quivers,
You the unshaken tree;
You are the stars that are steadfast,
I am the sea.

You are the light eternal,
Like a torch I shall die...
You are the surge of deep music,
I - but a cry!

Twitter Ho Down! Or Is It a Hootinanny?

Click

Courtesy of Past Expiry Cartoon

Okay. I have been away for a while, so I am back. I have not done a Twitter Post since July 31. On July 31, I had the following conversation on twitter, which began without me. So by popular request, and by that I mean that Wendy is popular and she requested it, I bring you an episode on twitter entitled Bob's Butt...

JeanneDamoff@br8kthru No pressure. I just told the whole world you're a comedian, that's all.

br8kthru@JeanneDamoff It's funny because I'm pretty quiet in person (unless I'm preaching). It really takes me a while to totally let my guard down

JeanneDamoff@br8kthru Well, that's better than people who let their guard down right out of the blocks. "Hi, I'm Bob. I have hemorrhoids." Awkward!

br8kthru@JeanneDamoff That makes you uncomfortable? I find that honesty refreshing. Ha!

JeanneDamoff@br8kthru Sorry, but "refreshing" and "hemorrhoids" do not belong in the same category.

weightwhat@JeanneDamoff Wait, who has refreshing hemorrhoids?

br8kthru@weightwhat Bob, but not @Helenatrandom 's Bob. This is where I first come in, without checking previous tweets, so I have no clue what came before.

Helenatrandom@br8kthru @weightwhat So....talking about Bob behind my back, hmmm....

B8kthru @Helenatrandom poor Bob, he never did nothin' to noone...

Helenatrandom@br8kthru True. He is so innocent. But then, he does not tweet. (Either that or he totally does, but won't follow me or give his name)

Br8thru @JeanneDamoff refreshing in the "trials produce perseverance" category perhaps.

br8kthru@JeanneDamoff see that's why I'm a good pastor- I can turn hemorrhoid talk into a bible study on Romans. You are so welcome!

Helenatrandom OK, contemplating my husband's butt with you all has been fun, but I have a graduation party to get ready for. Tweet you later.

Helenatrandom(Okay, it is going to take all my self control this week to not make Bob's butt my theme for next week's twitter post.

weightwhat@Helenatrandom Bob's butt! Bob's butt! Bob's butt!

becca_homefront@weightwhat @Helenatrandom I just read the backstory on Bob's butt...why, I'll never know, but thank goodness I'm not drinking or eating!

weightwhat@becca_homefront - @Helenatrandom likes to talk about Bob's butt. And put it in other peoples hands. She's funny that way.

becca_homefront@weightwhat Hahahaha...then she should definitely make Bob's butt her twitter post topic next week! @Helenatrandom We want Bob's butt!

Now, how about doing a twitter post and joining the blog carnival?

Now, one favor from those of you on twitter? Can you please spread the hashtag #JerryLeeLewisIsAliveWhoKnew for me. Most people are surprised to find out that he isn't dead. How would you like it if everyone thought you were dead? Let's be nice to him and let people know he isn't dead!

I'm Back! And So is My Computer!

Yesterday, I met my husband outside when he came home from work. This conversation takes place in front of our house.

Bob: What's up.
Me: I thought I should warn you before you went inside.
Bob: About...
Me: I moved the couch.
Bob: And....
Me: I can't move it back..
Bob: That's okay. I'll do that. By the way, why did you...
Me: I couldn't find my driver's license renewal slip. It wasn't where I left it...
Bob: (He is used that sort of statement) Okay...so you moved the couch...
Me: The last time I saw it, I was trying to follow the directions to renew over the phone. It must not have worked, because I never got the sticker...
Bob: Okay...the couch?
Me: I was calling from the portable phone while sitting on the couch. I was sure I put it in the bill pile, but can't find it. I thought maybe it slipped under the couch.
Bob: Maybe you could go without the slip and they could just print a new one..
Me: No. The slip says "Do not lose this slip". I think they mean it.
Bob: Well, we could go there to find out what to do...
Me: Or you could pick up the computer. It's ready. Then I can look up the DMV web page, and see if what to do is under frequently asked questions.
(Bob heads back to the van immediately)
Me: Wait! Don't you want dinner first?
Bob: The repair desk closes in ten minutes. No. I do not want dinner first.

Okay. Bob sets up the computer, then moves the couch back while I look up DMV. No answer on the web page. Bob got a renewal letter last week, so he drives me to ask the question (to whom I don't know, but if you are gonna drive a man crazy worrying about something, you need to humor him a little when he thinks he has come up with a solution). In the van, I open my wallet to get my license out and renewal fee ready, and guess what I find what I find in my wallet? The renewal slip. Oh well. I needed to clean behind the couch anyways.

Happy Birthday, Beth

Today is the Birthday of my friend Beth. She has a blog called That's Not Me Anymore.Go ahead and check her out on my blogroll.
I feel like I have always known Beth, though I met her through others from SCL. She has such a beautiful heart and is such an awesome person I can easily convince myself we go waaaayyy back...I admire how as a busy young mom, she finds time for devotions, volunteering at Church, volunteering at the youth center, blogging, and being an encouragement to her cyberfriends.
Again, I wish I could do bells and whistiles at this computer in the library, but I can't figure out Copy and Paste. So instead, I offer you a limerick, as well.

Beth was a very good friend and mother
In all Indiana I doubt there was another
to show such devotion and love
With help from God above
(at least no other I know of....)

Happy Birthday, Beth.

Happy Birthday, Sherri

Today is Sherri's birthday. She writes a lovely blog called Matter of Fact. She's on my blogroll. Check her out.

I first saw Sherri's blog through SCL. She had asked us to check out her questionaire about the election, so I did. She blogs about lots of things. I am not sure I can think of any other time she posted about politics. Whatever her posts, they are always from her heart, and she inspires me to share in my everyday life the same way I do on my blog...openly and honestly. Still working on it...

Anyways Sherri, I wish I had access to my real computer so I could copy and paste something flashy for you. You deserve the bells and the whistles...Unfortunately, the best I can do for you is a limerick.

In Southern Illinois lives a woman named Sherri
Whose obsession with shoes is quite scary
She likes her heels high
I cannot understand why
If I wore them, I'd fall over and die.

Happy Birthday, Sherri! I am sorry I can't copy and paste a neat video for you like you deserve.

Love,
Helen

Audio Books

I am unable to copy and paste at the library (I don't know why), so I will not be able to post a Saturday Caption post this week or next. After that, I don't know...
Mom and I just finished the latest Janet Evanovich book on CD on Wednesday, so I thought I would rerun this from last year in my "Best of" jposts until I have regular access to a computer again. I also have a stack of books on CD for mom and I to listen to.
I know. I need to be reading a book I promised to review, but it has been slow going. Every time I feel the author takes a pot shot at Catholicism, I have to stop for a while. I guess that gives you a hint as to how positively (or not) I am going to be assessing that book.
Last year, I wrote about my newfound love of audio books.
I wrote on June 8, 2008
I have discovered audio books. No, I didn't invent them, I just realize that they now have a place in my life. See, in the past, I was always snobbish about audio books. I was snobbish about literature in general, even as a kid. That may be the real reason no one liked me, although at the time I thought it was because I'm at and they're shallow. In truth, it was more because I thought I was perfect, and I wasn't. Come to think of it, even if I had been, would that have made me more likable? I doubt it.
Anyway, I discovered that if I listen to an audio book, mom can join me if she likes, and then does not feel as left out as she does when I am reading by myself. It has also opened up a whole new world for me. See I am slightly CDO (which is like OCD, but in proper alphabetical order as it rightly should be). It is not even the good OCD, where you always have a clean house because the dust bunny and you are mortal enemies, and she shall not have the upper hand. No, its the kind where I believe that appliances magically turn themselves on when I am not looking. It is the kind where I cannot read a book unless I can find time to read every book the author ever wrote, in the order in which she wrote it. Don't ask me what happens if I read the books out of order. I've never done it. It could be cataclysmic!
Now that I listen to audio books, I have begun stories by Janet Evanovich, and Agatha Christie, both prolific writers whom I would never have begun because who has time to sit around and read all day long? I feared that if I began it, I would never be able to read anything else by another author ever again! Today, however, mom and I have finished listening to everything Janet Evanovich has written so far, and a whole bunch of Hercule Poirot stories. I have slightly broken with my CDO ways, and we are listening to all of the Poirot series before we begin Miss Marple. That could be my CDO manifesting itself in a different way, but I prefer to think positively. Have a great day!

Happy Birthday, Kathy at Happy at Home

Happy Birthday, Kathy.
I am sorry that I can't cut and paste on this computer here in the library. You deserve to have the flashing pictures and a zippy video, too, but the best I can do from here is a simple post saying Happy Birthday, and God Bless you. You and your heart have caused us all many smiles.

You also deserve a link, but not being able to cut and paste....Yeah, I don't know it off the top of my head, because I just click on my blogroll.

Happy Birthday. Wishing you all the best!

Happy Birthday, Katdish

Today is the birthday of a dear cyber friend, katdish. I demand that you click this button and leave her a comment wishing her a Happy Birthday. Do it!

Katdish was the second person to comment on my blog, but the first person to comment regularly. Her encouragement kept me blogging, because I was starting to feel like a crazy women who not only was talking to herself, but doing it in public. Thanks to Katdish, I am able to just go with that.

In her honor today, I am posting a song by one of her favorite groups, ZZ Top. I am posting "Jesus Has Left Chicago", even though I know that statement isn't true. (I'm in Chicago, and He happens to be residing in my heart, but anyways....)

I'm also going to post a wacky Birthday song. Because that is how I roll!

Mamma Mia!

Okay, people. I posted this on August 8, 2008. I am reposting this because a) My husband gave me the DVD for our anniversary on July 20, so the movie is on my mind, and b)My computer is possibly still down, and I don't want you to have to go to long without hearing from me. Besides, most of you didn't know me yet when I wrote this, so you probably haven't read it yet. If you are katdish, you read it, but will enjoy rereading about my kookiness and looking at new comments. Win, win, everybody wins here on Random Musings....

Written on August 9, 2008
I am so excited I can barely type! My mom hired someone to take care of her this afternoon, and my husband and I went to see Mamma Mia! I know the critics hated it, but I loved it! The scenery was amazing! The plot had me crying practically throughout the movie, and when I wasn't crying, I was laughing. I did not sing along, since the previews request that we not add our own soundtracks.
I cried for the girl, who longed to know her father. I cried for the mother, who found herself in a pickle due to previous sin. Yes, I know, we are responsible for our own sins, and thus, the consequences. That doesn't mean I can't feel sorry for the sinner. After all, I am one too. My sins are different, but no better (or worse). God doesn't say some sins are ugly, and some are not so bad or down right cute. So anyway, I felt deeply sorry for both mother and daughter. I also cried at the partially happy ending (I won't spoil it and say why it was only partially happy. If you see it, you will want to be surprised!)
I thought is was funny in the way all musicals are funny, with people dropping what they are doing and parading around to sing. But real life isn't like that. I know, I've tried it in the supermarket. People did not follow me and start singing Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, but the workers at Dominick's always ask if they can help me with anything as soon as they see me. Either the Dominick's in Park Ridge is a very friendly place, or they didn't like my singing voice and are trying help me get out faster so they won't have to hear it again. I'm good with it either way.
Have a great weekend. I already have!

I still heartily recommend the movie on DVD. The scenery was more awe inspiring on the big screen, but it is still lovely, and the storyline is very moving. Come on guys. Take a Chance on Me...or at least my recommedations. ;-)

News from Helenatrandom

Okay friends. I know I tweeted that I have a funeral to go to on Tuesday, but I didn't say who. My husband's 90+ year old aunt passed away last week. She was a lovely person, but had been suffering terminal illness for quite a while. While the finality of not seeing her on earth saddens us, we believe we will see her again in Heaven, where there is no pain or death, so for that we are glad. We are sad and happy at the same time.
Her passing inspired me to go visit family graves at a couple of cemeteries this weekend. Someday I'll explain why I love the cemetery. Right now, my time at the computer at the library is short, and there is much to do...
That's right. This morning I discovered that the computer isn't working. Hopefully Bob, my Computer Whisperer, will be able to do something. However, if he tames computers, he doesn't raise them from the dead. Keep your fingers crossed.
So, you may not be getting news from me for a while. I'll pick out an oldie but a goodie or two from the past to repost this week so that you don't have to suffer this week entirely without me. If my Computer Whisperer tames her, I will update you all to that too. And tweet on twitter like a canary on crack.
Peace everyone. God Bless you all.

Saturday Morning Captions...(I Missed Them)

Did you miss the caption contest the last couple of weeks? I sure did!
I like animal pictures. I hope you do too.
Winner will be announced on Monday by 9:00 am central time. That gives you plenty of time to think of something and participate.
