Happy Birthday Steph!

Steph is a very special member of our blogger girl team! It is thanks to her that I know why dogs wear chicken necklaces, the reason why chocolate now gives me the poops. Thanks to her introduction of Gladys to us that it is now said of Helen at Random "Helen loves Jesus, but she drinks a little...". The people in my world also owe her a debt of gratitude for my newfound appreciation of this song, because until the Goth video she posted, I liked the song, but was not all CDO over it.

(I was going to post the Chicken Dance, because of her Dog's necklace, which was the first post on her blog that I ever read, but then I thought it would be cooler to find chickens dancing to "Single Ladies". Sadly, there are no such videos on Youtube. Yet.)

Happy Birthday Steph! We love you! (Click on the title of this post to wish her a Happy Birthday on her blog!)

Audio Books

I am unable to copy and paste at the library (I don't know why), so I will not be able to post a Saturday Caption post this week or next. After that, I don't know...
Mom and I just finished the latest Janet Evanovich book on CD on Wednesday, so I thought I would rerun this from last year in my "Best of" jposts until I have regular access to a computer again. I also have a stack of books on CD for mom and I to listen to.
I know. I need to be reading a book I promised to review, but it has been slow going. Every time I feel the author takes a pot shot at Catholicism, I have to stop for a while. I guess that gives you a hint as to how positively (or not) I am going to be assessing that book.
Last year, I wrote about my newfound love of audio books.
I wrote on June 8, 2008
I have discovered audio books. No, I didn't invent them, I just realize that they now have a place in my life. See, in the past, I was always snobbish about audio books. I was snobbish about literature in general, even as a kid. That may be the real reason no one liked me, although at the time I thought it was because I'm at and they're shallow. In truth, it was more because I thought I was perfect, and I wasn't. Come to think of it, even if I had been, would that have made me more likable? I doubt it.
Anyway, I discovered that if I listen to an audio book, mom can join me if she likes, and then does not feel as left out as she does when I am reading by myself. It has also opened up a whole new world for me. See I am slightly CDO (which is like OCD, but in proper alphabetical order as it rightly should be). It is not even the good OCD, where you always have a clean house because the dust bunny and you are mortal enemies, and she shall not have the upper hand. No, its the kind where I believe that appliances magically turn themselves on when I am not looking. It is the kind where I cannot read a book unless I can find time to read every book the author ever wrote, in the order in which she wrote it. Don't ask me what happens if I read the books out of order. I've never done it. It could be cataclysmic!
Now that I listen to audio books, I have begun stories by Janet Evanovich, and Agatha Christie, both prolific writers whom I would never have begun because who has time to sit around and read all day long? I feared that if I began it, I would never be able to read anything else by another author ever again! Today, however, mom and I have finished listening to everything Janet Evanovich has written so far, and a whole bunch of Hercule Poirot stories. I have slightly broken with my CDO ways, and we are listening to all of the Poirot series before we begin Miss Marple. That could be my CDO manifesting itself in a different way, but I prefer to think positively. Have a great day!

Daughter of Time

I have just finished reading a mystery by Josephine Tey called Daughter of Time. It is not exactly a new mystery, since it was written in the 1950's, but it is new to me. Also new to me is that my CDO is going in a new direction. I usually end up having to read everything an author wrote after I begin a different author, especially if I liked the book. I really did like the book, but am now trying to read everything I can about Richard III.
You see, this book is a piece of historical fiction in which the main character is trying to determine if Richard III actually murdered his nephews in the tower as commonly portrayed in history books. The author makes a good case for someone else to be the culprit, though I won't spoil it by telling you who just in case you want to read it (If you don't want to read the book, but want a summary, click on the title of this post).
I have been googling Richard III in an effort to find out if this information is accurate and the conclusion plausible, or if it was just a story with facts tweeked to justify the ending. It seems from my research that the facts check out, though other conclusions can be drawn besides the one the protagonist comes up with. I myself like the theory that they were sent abroad, and later executed upon return as "pretenders" (not the band). I am contemplating writing to a history professor I had when I was in college, and asking her opinion. How odd would that be? Would she realize I am CDO, or would she think it was perfectly natural to ask an expert in Tudor history her opinion on Henry VII's predecessor as if I was in her class last year instead of twenty years ago? Would she care that it is odd? I have always been odd, and she always seemed to like me. I can't expect her to remember me, though. I can only hope she likes odd people as a general rule, instead of me specifically. Maybe I should write a research paper on it, send it to her, and ask her to grade it with comments. That's it! That is what I will do! Thanks for reading.
God bless!

Internet Down

Hello again! My internet has not been working for a little over a week, so I haven't been able to post. The good news is, my house is clean. Not OCD clean, but the best it has been in a while. (My CDO is not the compulsive cleaning kind, but the kind where appliances may magically replug themselves and start fires while I am not looking. That is why every time I leave the house, I check the toaster and coffee pot at least three times, the stove twice, and run back and forth three times making sure the door is locked, before I finally just ask my husband to "double check me").
Besides a clean house, there is not much I can add. I'm planning a party for two weeks from today. My old, disbanded prayer group did not have a Christmas party this year because the couple that hosts it was feeling under the weather. I love Christmas, but feel embarrassed that I don't do decorating well so I decided to have an Easter party instead. Bigger and better holiday theologically speaking anyway (some day I will write about why Easter, and not Christmas, is my favorite holiday). Yeah, I know I missed Easter by a mile, but a member of the former group, who is also a family member of mine and a dear friend of my husband's (best man at our wedding) was being operated on at the time (whipple surgery, very big deal). He is well loved not only by my husband and me, but by the whole former group. Without him here, the "party" would have been a gathering of "How is he? Will he be okay? What did you hear and when did you hear it?" So we waited until he'd be well enough to attend. Now I guess it's a sort of Thanksgiving party. Not Thanksgiving as in harvest festival, but Thanksgiving that our friend's health is improving. And with Thanksgiving, we'll offer petition for his continued healing.
Hope. That, too, is a big deal.

Cinquain

Psalms
expressive, timeless
writing, reading, living
God reigns benevolently powerful
Poetry

I did find inspiration from Psalm 3 afterall. Granted, cinquains are not part of the contest, but I submitted it anyways. Afterall, there are at least two clerihews, and that was not part of the contest.

I was wondering if I should start a separate blog for musing about the Psalms. Originally, this blog was intended to be about whatever my mind was fumbling with at the moment I was typing, whether it was a good book I read, a recipe, or beating myself up for not sticking to a diet or a lenten promise. For the last 3 days, it seems to be about the Psalms and the poetry contest. Apparently I am CDOing. Would it be more CDO to do this in a separate blog, or less. Do I need to be less CDO about my blog? Am I still musing randomly? Oh well...
