Last week my cousin sent me an email about the things Vodka can do (besides pickle a liver). I thought I'd share it on today's What I Learned post.

Who Knew???

1. To remove a bandage painlessly, saturate the bandage with vodka. The stuff dissolves adhesive

2. To clean the caulking around bathtubs and showers, fill a trigger-spray
bottle with vodka, spray the caulking, let set five minutes and wash clean .
The alcohol in the vodka kills mold and mildew.

3. To clean your eyeglasses, simply wipe the lenses with a soft, clean cloth dampened with vodka.
The alcohol in the vodka cleans the glass and kills germs.

4. Prolong the life of razors by filling a cup with vodka and letting your safety razor blade
soak in the alcohol after shaving.
The vodka disinfects the blade and prevents rusting.

5. Spray vodka on wine stains, scrub with a brush, and then blot dry.

6. Using a cotton ball, apply vodka to your face
as an astringent to cleanse the skin and tighten pores.

7. Add a jigger of vodka to a 12-ounce bottle of shampoo.
The alcohol cleanses the scalp, removes toxins from hair, and stimulates the growth
of healthy hair.

8. Fill a sixteen-ounce trigger-spray bottle with vodka and spray bees or wasps to kill them.

9 Pour one-half cup vodka and one-half cup water into a Ziploc freezer bag
and freeze for a slushy, refreshing ice pack for aches, pain or black eyes.

10. Fill a clean, used mayonnaise jar with freshly packed lavender flowers,
fill the jar with vodka, seal the lid tightly and set in the sun for three days.
Strain liquid through a coffee filter, then apply the tincture to aches and pains.

11. To relieve a fever, use a washcloth to rub vodka on your chest and back as a liniment.

12. To cure foot odor, wash your feet with vodka.

13 Vodka will disinfect and alleviate a jellyfish sting.

14. Pour vodka over an area affected with poison ivy to remove the urushiol oil from your skin.

15. Swish a shot of vodka over an aching tooth.
Allow your gums to absorb some of the alcohol to numb the pain.

Wow. It seems that vodka is very potent. I'm glad I stick to honeyed scotch.

I've used flavored vodka and edible glitter to "jazz up" fondant cakes. It makes the fondant shiny and gives it a less than horrible taste.

Is that why my crazy aunt always carried vodka with here everywhere she went? For medicinal purposes? Who knew?

And Citron Grey Goose makes a frigintastic Canatloupe martini. Or so I've heard anyway...

I wonder if it would get tar off carpeting?

And here I've always just drank it...

sherri, I bet it would get you to tell us how the tar got ON the carpeting.

I wonder if #9 would also work as a popsicle? Or a slush?

Re #13: FINALLY a jellyfish solution that would not involve peeing on it.

And re #15: Letting your digestive system absorb some of the vodka would alleviate even MORE of the pain, right?

I've never tasted vodka. But being that cough syrup makes me gag and shudder, I suspect I wouldn't like it.

besides all that, it's just fun to say vodka. Vodka! Vodka! Vodka! It's like a barrel of monkeys...

@steph- I think vodka is basically tasteless from what I've heard so you could knock yourself out, literally.

Who knew vodka did all these things plus make a great Cape Cod? Now are we talking the top or bottom shelf vodka ;) I'm going to try #9 for my husband's back - he's been having to ice it every night b/c of a sprain.

Spray bees and wasps with it? Does it make them too drunk to fly, but they refuse to get a cab?

Drinking Vodka can also raise your blood alcohol level.

Bet ya didn't know that!

(I refuse to comment on whether or not raising your blood alcohol level is a good thing)

Well…I have to say I had no idea. Good thing you figured these things out, because I have to say I never would have done the research. And now, next time I have extra vodka (???), I’ll know just what to do with it. :)

Steph, I wondered the same.
Jason, vodka vodka vodka...You are right.
