I Just Got Lucky

How many of you have ever tried to explain a blog to someone unfamiliar with the internet?
Today I tried to explain to my aunt what I do here. No, she has never seen my blog, or any blog. She doesn't have email. She has never googled anyone in her life.
For the zillioneth time this year, I told her I write a blog. For the zillioneth time this year, she said she didn't know that. However, this time she proceeds with "What's a blog?'

(And a phone conversation with my favorite aunt is a part of my life that today was funny to me, anyway.

Auntie: What's a blog?
HRM: It's kind of like a journal on a website.
Auntie: Like a diary?
HRM: It can be. Mine sometimes shares personal information, sometimes cartoons, sometimes jokes, and sometimes my faith.
Auntie: Oh.
HRM: Yesterday I posted a song about the Holy Spirit for Pentecost. On Friday, I posted the Pillsbury Doughboy's obituary.
Auntie: Wha?
HRM: I never read the Pillsbury Doughboy's obituary to you?
Auntie: No, I can't say that you did....
HRM: Well, mom will have to excuse us (we were on speakerphone) while I rectify that oversight.
(I proceed to the computer where I read Friday's post. No links, just scroll down people. Or hit older post twice. I am not going to link everything, you know.)
Auntie: Oh, that's cute. People like that, huh?
(I go back to mom's room with the phone)
HRM: What I think they really liked were the Pillsbury Doughboy bloopers.
Auntie: Pillsbury Doughboy bloopers?
HRM: Yeah. You know what bloopers are, right?
Auntie: Yeah, I've watched the show, but how does the Pillsbury Doughboy have bloopers?
HRM: Well it was more like a joke than blooper. It showed the Pillsbury Doughboy farting and flipping people off.
(Mom shakes her head. Now she knows what I was giggling about all day Friday.)
Auntie: Where do you find such things?
HRM: I googled Pillsbury Doughboy and Youtube. I didn't google Pillsbury Doughboy only farting, though. I just got lucky.
Auntie: If you could call it that....
(Mom laughs)

Yeah, this letting people getting to know the real me can become a wild ride for us all. My family knows me as a religious conservative. Now I shall be known as a religious conservative who posts videos of the Pillsbury Doughboy farting. And that is why I am posting this for the Life is Funny carnival. Because I think this conversation was hysterical.

Who Knew a Yeast Infection Could Be This Serious....

Not all email forwards are bad. Just the curses. And the good luck stuff. And the astrology. Some are kind of fun, and I like to share it with my friends. I love jokes. Some friends at prayer group shared this with Bob and me a few years ago. This was before everyone and their brother had email, so it was probably more than a few. They printed this out and brought this to the meeting to share with us, where we all begged for our own copies. Yes. We begged for it. I was thinking about it, and googled, cut, and pasted the durn thing for your pleasure. Since this was shared with me at a prayer meeting, I consider this joke holy.

Please join me in remembering a great icon of the entertainment community. The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection and trauma complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71.

Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin. Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs. Butterworth, Hungry Jack, the California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Captain Crunch. The grave site was piled high with flours.

Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy and lovingly described Doughboy as a man who never knew how much he was kneaded. Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times he still was a crusty old man and was considered a positive roll model for millions.

Doughboy is survived by his wife Play Dough, two children, John Dough and Jane Dough, plus they had one in the oven. He is also survived by his elderly father, Pop Tart. The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.

This video was not recommended by the prayer group, therefore it is not holy. But it is funny!

And here is another one of that bad boy...

I Think HH Has Taken Over the Blog for a Day

For those of you that missed my interview with myself, HH is Hungarian Helen, and she is a toughie.

If you actually have an MBA, don't worry, I don't actually personally blame you for the economy any more than I blame all scientists for embryonic stem cell research, all priest for....well, you know...., or all politicians for corruption.

Okay, maybe that last one doesn't belong.

Okay, one more...

An Open Letter to KFC

Steph and Candy have requested that I write an open letter to KFC due to the fact that so many of the stores are not honoring the coupons downloaded from Oprah's website. I love my friends, and am happy to oblige. I think I might have gone overboard. Oh well, you can all help me revise it. Won't you?

Dear KFC,
The other day, my momma told me Oprah was giving away free chicken from your franchise. My momma wanted me to download the coupons. She doesn't know what downloading is, but she figured I'd know how to do it. I asked her why, when we like Brown's chicken better. Browns chicken is crispier, with just the right amount of seasoning. They also make better biscuits. I once made a grown man cry for not giving up his mushrooms to me. Yes, not only does Brown's Chicken taste better, as their advertisements claim, but so do their sides. The coleslaw from Brown's is so tasty, block parties have been raided by the police due to violence when the hostess ran out. Okay, that never happened. But it wouldn't surprise me if it did. Mom had a one hundred year old neighbor at one time who loved the stuff, and she was fierce. If she had been a couple of years younger, she may have gotten that last spoonful.
The name Brown's was first on my family's lips whenever food for a party was discussed. In our house, having a taste for Brown's chicken was reason enough to throw a party. Our last party had a sign out front "Happy We Want Fried Mushrooms". Okay, not really. But it could have.
So why did my mother blaspheme by uttering the letters K-F-C? She heard on Oprah that you have come up with something new. Something healthy. Something Oprah was twittering about. My mother has no idea what twittering is, but if Oprah is doing it, it must have something to do with saving the planet from itself, or in this case, deep fried food. And you, KFC, you had the opportunity to be part of it. You, you temptress of chicken appendages, had the opportunity to lure us away from the goodness that is Brown's, in favor of a healthier fare.
But then you dropped the ball. You are not honoring coupons. You have attempted to lure me into your den of chicken iniquity with the promise of free, healthy food, and then pulled back. If you lie about it being free, are you also lying about it being healthy? Yes it may be grilled, but have you purposely grilled it to the point of holding nasty carcinogens, all because of my and my family's preference for Brown's? For shame, KFC, for shame.
I for one was not seduced by your promise of healthy chicken. I did not download your worthless coupons. My husband, genius that he is, was convinced that you would send the chicken flu to my computer. The swine flu is a distraction meant to divert us from this diabolical virus. Obviously you and Oprah are in cahoots to disable my computer. My mac hasn't had a virus yet, and he was not going to give you the opportunity to expose it to coupons from an unknown source.
I should feel glad that I was not tricked. I did not fall under your free chicken spell. But you see, I have friends that did. One of my friend's dog went hungry last night because they were counting on your free chicken coupon to be honored. How do you people live with yourselves? You people disgust me! You are a disgrace to the memory of Colonel Sanders. I hope the chickens come home to roost for you and your organization.
Sincerely,
Helen Moschnossgepup

Dear Brown's Chicken,
I will accept your coupons for anything any day of the week. If you send me some, please see that they are honored. You have no idea how snarky I can get when I'm hungry.
Your ever loyal customer,
Helen Moschnossgepup

Is That Cat Talking to Me?

Get Fuzzy

I am going to a dinner dance this weekend, and reading this made me wonder: are they talking to me? I know I salsa dance at the supermarket, but not for the whole time I am there. When I was young, I used to dance nonstop......Now, there is very little that I can do nonstop.....

Oh, my friend Katdish at Hey Look, A Chicken did a post about using Google Analytics and what searches people have used and ended up finding her. I have decided to label everything on my blog "porn" so that people get misdirected here, and hopefully find guidance. What's the worst that could happen? Okay, maybe I'll only do that for every other post....

Or not at all...

One Big Happy Classics

Another cartoon reminding me of my teaching days. Yeah, this is funny, but it could really happen. And the cute thing is, they look at me funny when I laugh!
Reminds me of ...
George: Say goodnight, Gracie.
Gracie: Goodnight, Gracie.

Welcome to Candada

Drabble

Yeah. I have messed up the obvious sometimes. Like Drabble, I have been caught saying good morning instead of good afternoon. I have also let water boil dry, and forgotten to put the milk away.
My favorite goof up? When my supervising professor was visiting on the day I was teaching about Canada, and I was so nervous, I wrote "Candada" on the board. Luckily for me, she saw how drawn in the kids were once they were able to correct me, and thought the mistake was a tool for getting their attention. Yeah. Far be it from me to correct my superiors. How about you? Do you have a favorite mistake?

Anyone Out There Got Any Duck Food?

Boy, I noticed that lots of people at different blogs are getting all reflective about their blogs. Maybe it's a movement of the Holy Spirit. What does it say about me that I am reflecting on my favorite jokes instead? I say it says "many gifts, but the same Spirit", that's what I say.
Now, here is a question worthy of some reflection: If you hear a joke at a Prayer Meeting, is it more spiritual than if you hear it in the grocery store, beauty shop, or locker room? At www.fottsp.blogspot.com (Fellowship of the Traveling Smarty Pants, in my sidebar), I shared a joke that I thought was hysterical. I can still work myself into hiccups over it.

This, however, is not that joke....
A man hears a knock at his door. He goes to the door and their is a duck on his front porch. The duck says “Got any duck food?”. The man, mystified, says “No I don’t.” and shuts the door.

The next day, again, a knock at the door. The man answers, same duck, “You got any duck food?”. The man is slightly annoyed and says “No, I don’t. And please don’t come back.”.

Third day, knock on the door. The man is getting quite angry and frustrated now. He answers the door and sure enough there is the duck, who says, “Got any duck food?”. The man yells this time and says: “No. I do not have any duck food and if you come back here again asking for duck food, I will nail your floopy, webbed feed to that porch!” and he slams the door.

Believe it or not, again, the next day there is a knock at the man’s door. He swings the door open and sure enough, there is the duck. The duck says “Got any nails?”. The man, confused, says “well, um, no I don’t…” and the duck says, “OK, got any duck food?”.

The joke I shared here was told by Nick, and frankly, watching him laugh at it was funnier than the joke itself. Maybe because as a teacher of second graders, I felt like I was being asked for duck food all the time. And why not? Don't I ask God for duck food all the time? Only God does not threaten to nail my swollen feet to the floor if I ask Him again, He just says, "No honey, I have something else for you. Something more suited to who I created you to be." And I respond "Got any duck food?". I am starting to think I am asking the wrong questions...

On another note, my friend Annie, at Buzz by Annie's in my side bar, did her own interview with herself. One of her questions for herself was along the lines of if you could go back in time and give advice to any historical figure, what would it be and to who. She gave an amusing, yet thoughtful answer. My answer is that I would advise Abraham Lincoln to do something related to Good Friday, like Stations of the Cross, on Good Friday, instead of going to the theatre. J.W. Boothe wasn't at Church. He was at the theatre. See where I am going with this? I thought this was a great question, and am now posing it to you.... What advice would you give a historical figure? Be funny, or reflective, or whoever you are today.

Joke Sharing Time

A blog that I have never checked out before suggested we share something we thought was funny this week, and link back to her. I am game. I like funny stories. Click on the picture below if you want to check her blog out.

I found this at The Wittenburg Door Archives. What is a good Catholic girl like me reading the Wittenburg door for? I guess I am a rebel like that. Besides. I love to laugh, and some of their parodies are really funny.

The premise of this joke is that God is keeping a blog as he creates the universe. I have kept the author credit at the bottom of the page. I am not trying to steal someone's work, but share something really funny.

Day 1
Listening to: Silence (it's wonderful)
Mood: Blissful
Created light. Took about 11 seconds.
What to do with the rest of the day?
Wound up creating the sheet, too. Spent afternoon making shadow-puppets with Jesus (Unable to cast a shadow, the Holy Spirit got upset went body-surfing). Jesus does this thing where He makes a fist then sticks up his index and middle fingers and bounces His hand around – cracks me up. Not sure what to call it; we'll delegate that sort of thing somewhere down the line.
If I ever get a book deal from this blog, I might leave out the part about the shadow-puppets. "Let there be light" is much more impressive than "Let there be light and a bed sheet."
All in all, a good day.
Day 2
Listening to: Silence again (it can't last forever; must enjoy it while I can)
Mood: Expectant
Had another good day today. Separated water into two parts with an expanse we're calling "sky" in between. We may rethink the name later, but it works as a placeholder.
Holy Spirit spent the afternoon hovering above and below the face of the deep.
Day 3
Listening to: Ocean surf breaking on the beach
Mood: Happy
Good things are afoot. Created land today. Can't talk about it now, but I see real potential in this "dirt" stuff. I'll keep you posted.
In the course of creating land, we also created "seas." Spent the rest of the day punning with Jesus and Holy Spirit: "Now see here...." "No, no, the sea is over there." Must blog on the humor potential of homophones someday: Sea if I don't.
Got a big project set for this afternoon. I'll blog on it tomorrow.

Day 4
Listening to: The music of the spheres
Mood: Charamblontical (there's simply no other word for it)
Spent yesterday creating a garden. This was one of the things I was thinking about yesterday when I mentioned that I saw potential in dirt. You can plant all kinds of stuff in it. Trees, shrubberies, vegetables – it's all good. There's another little project I have in mind for the dirt, but it'll be a couple days before I can say more.
Today, though, was Moving Day. Created stars and planets – but where to put them? All bunched together, they're not that exciting. Holy Spirit suggested spreading them out across the universe. That's good, I thought.
So I called Fed Ex and explained my vision to them. I explained our tight schedule, too: "It absolutely, positively has to be there overnight." They said, "no sweat," and asked if they could use that as their motto. "Not a problem," I said. After all, I am a gracious God, aren't I?
Day 5
Listening to: Jesus telling a "Big Fish" story
Mood: Amused (the "big fish" thing has potential, might return to it one day)
This morning I noticed a cool thing while creating birds and fish. When the land and the seas got separated a couple days ago some water got trapped in pockets of the land. We're calling them lakes and they're really an asset to the scenery.
While we were walking across one, Jesus said, "Hey, imagine how exciting it would be if this lake was filled with fire instead of water?" "But what would we put in it?" I asked. He didn't know, but I've got to admit a lake of fire would be something to see.
Handy creation tip: When creating large white birds to live near the seashore, wear a hat.
Day 6
Listening to: Jungle sounds
Mood: Pleased
Today we really made up for only working 11 seconds back at the beginning of the week. We spent all day creating animals. Like with the plants, we went for variety. Long ears. Short ears. Short ears, long tail. Long ears, almost no tail. Horns on heads. Horns on noses. Stripes. Spots. You name it, we did it. Created dinosaurs, too – Jesus loves the little dinosaurs. I foresee a couple scenarios down the road where there might be problems with the dinos, but for now they're playing well with the rest of creation.
I did my other dirt project today, too. I created man and woman. Adam is handling the names project for us. I ran through the "sea" jokes from the other day, but he didn't get them (had to be there, I guess). Eve did, though (sharp as a serpent's tooth, that one).
Turns out Jesus was making a bunny rabbit shadow-puppet earlier in the week. Good to know.
Day 7
Listening to: The collected works of Burt Bacharach (there are advantages to being omnipresent in time as well as space)
Mood: Serene (like a televangelist high on hairspray fumes – the downside of temporal omnipresence: I already know about garbage like this)
Taking it easy today, so this'll be short. I created banana cream pie around 10:30 this morning, but let's keep that on the QT, all right?
Noticed a certain animal in the garden that wasn't playing well with others this afternoon. Looks like we might be moving ahead with that Lake of Fire project after all.

BTW, it helps to be familiar with the original story in Genesis to get why some of this is funny.  Click here to refresh your memory about the original story.

P.S. If you type "Noah's blog" in my search section at the top of this blog, you'll get Noah's blog during the flood. I got it from the same source.

Some Things Shouldn't Be Joked About, But I'm Gonna Anyway

As you ought to see tomorrow if you visit the blog "Fellowship of the Traveling Pants", I take the occult rather seriously. Very seriously. I run like H-E-double hockey stick from it. Still, I can't resist a good psychic joke. Ladies, learn this joke and tell it to your man February 15 if he forgets about the happy day (or before hand, if he tries to convince you he won't partake because it is a "greeting card holiday")

Jennifer visited a psychic of some local repute. In a dark and hazy room, peering into a crystal ball, the mystic delivered grave news: "There's no easy way to say this, so I'll just be blunt - prepare yourself to be a widow. Your husband will die a violent and horrible death this year." Visibly shaken, Jennifer stared at the woman's lined face, then at the single flickering candle, then down at her hands. She took a few deep breaths to compose herself. She simply had to know. She met the fortune teller's gaze, steadied her voice, and asked: "Will I be acquitted?"

Okay, which of you bloggers knew that Veggie Tales did a polka? You should have told me! Helen likes polkas. Helen likes cartoons. Put them together, and what do you get? Happy Helen! I hope you all enjoy this more than yesterday's car crash video.

Why My Tree Is Fake

This song was inspired by Ryan B's post today. Click on the title of this post to check out his blog.

Owed to Allergies
(to be sung to the tune of jingle bells)

Allergies, Allergies
Pine trees make me sneeze
It’s not fun on Christmas day, when all you do is wheeze.

Allergies, allergies
Cause my throat to swell
Such a shame, since pine has a truly nice smell..

Dashing in the Chevy
To the apothecary
Hope I get there safe
It is starting to snow
Why did I buy the pine
I should’ve known it wouldn’t be fine
I can’t mow the lawn because I’m allergic to grass
Now I’m knocked flat on my…

Allergies, Allergies
Pine trees make me sneeze
It’s not fun on Christmas day, when all you do is wheeze.

Allergies, allergies
Cause my throat to swell
Such a shame, since pine has a truly nice smell..

Take My Governor, Please

Last week David Letterman had for his top ten list the top ten messages left on Governor Blagojevich's answering machine. As a citizen of the corrupt, er, I mean great state of Illinois, I would like to respond.

10) For 10 grand can you make me Pope?" Praise God, he doesn't have that kind of authority, though I wouldn't put it past him to not only try to sell the papacy, but to try to sell the throne of God if he could get away with it. Maybe that was supposed to be next...."Uh, excuse me God, this seat is mine now...I bought it fair and square....since Jesus sits at your right hand, is he going with you or staying with me, cuz it would really be cool if this was a twofer..."

9) "Hello, is this the Blog-o-bloga-a-da-go-bl-vipivh residence?" Please. His name is pronounced as it is spelled, just make the j a consonant y sound. While I agree that we do not owe him, the courtesy to care, we should be considerate of people with slavonic last names and not just make fun of his name because it is so easy. There are plenty of other things about him we can make fun of---his hair, his Howdy Doody smile, his bleepin' limited vocabulary...

8) "Hi, it's O.J. Wanna be cellmates?" O.J. O.J. O.J. I really thought you'd have better taste in friends.

7) "Oh, I'm sorry, I think I have the wrong Blagojevich" Could be....

6) "Hi, it's Larry Craig -- did I hear something about a Senator's seat being available?" I've got two words for you, Larry. But this is a family blog, and you probably would.

5) "I'm calling about your Senate seat on Craigslist. Want to trade for a futon?" That depends. Is the futon bleepin' golden? Because he isn't going to bleepin' give the seat away for nothing...

4) "Hey, it's Cheney -- Damn even I think you're sleazy" Hello Mr. Cheney. Could you please take Governor Blagojevich hunting with you if he doesn't resign. It's okay, since it would be an accident....

3) "You really Blagojevich'd your political career" Again, Serbians in general deserve more respect than that. Rod doesn't, but he isn't the only Serbian American in this country. Every nationality has produced at least one bad apple. Except, of course, Utopian. There are no bad apples in Utopia.

2)"I'm guessing you didn't spend the bribe money on that haircut" His hair is the only thing I really liked about him!

1) "It's Sarah Palin. Thanks for replacing me as the country's most embarassing governor" Really. More embarassing than Spitzer. Give me a break. That was mean. I suppose that in retrospect, I am glad she will get more experience before she holds an office of National importance. But she was not an embarassment. Getting caught with hookers is embarassing (Spitzer). Selling licenses and causing deaths is even worse than embarassing (Ryan) . Trying to solicit bribes for a federal appointment is an embarassment (Blagojevich). Being underseasoned (Palin)--not so much!

Thanks for allowing me my tangent! Enjoy the video! (Warning: he tries to sell Patty....need I say more?)

P.S. The Blagojevich Video Bar is now open on my sidebar. It is an open bar, not a cash bar. I am ordinary folk you know. But, of course, if I were governor of IL, it would go to the highest bidder....

Look, Reindeer! No, It's Snow Darling!

Happy Catholic posted this on her blog in September. I hope she doesn't mind me sharing it now.

A long time ago, in Russia, there was a famous weather man named Rudolf.

He's always had a 100% accuracy rate for his forecasts of the Russian weather conditions. His people loved him and respected him for his faultless foresight. He was particularly good at predicting rain. One night, despite clear skies, he made the prediction on the 6:00pm news broadcast that a violent storm was approaching. It would flood the town in which he and his wife lived. He warned the people to take proper precautions and prepare for the worst.

After he arrived home later that evening, his wife met him at the door and started arguing with him that his weather prediction was the most ridiculous thing she had ever heard. This time, she said, he had made a terrible mistake. There wasn't a cloud anywhere within 10 miles of the village. As a matter of fact, that day had been the most beautiful day that the town had ever had and it was quite obvious to everyone that it simply wasn't going to rain.

He told her she was to be quiet and listen to him. If he said it was going to rain, IT WAS GOING TO RAIN. He had all of his Russian heritage behind him and he knew what he was talking about. She argued that although he came from a proud heritage, IT STILL WASN'T GOING TO RAIN.

They argued back and forth for hours , so much that they went to bed mad at each other.

During the night, sure enough one of the worst rainstorms hit the village the likes of which they had never seen. That morning when Rudolf and his wife arose, they looked out the window and saw all the water that had fallen that night.

"See," said Rudolf, "I told you it was going to rain." His wife admitted: "Once again your prediction came true. But I want to know, just how were you so accurate, Rudolf?" To which he replied, "You see, Rudolf the Red knows rain dear!"

Another Joke as Learning Tool

Several weeks ago I did a post about how I love jokes that teach something. Yesterday I learned, or perhaps relearned, a valuable lesson mom and I were watching The Tonight Show while I got her ready for bed (We usually watch The Late Show, but one more nasty joke about John McCain and I may go postal). Anyway, Jay Leno had a great joke last night. He said that the economy is so bad, Bill Maher was caught on his knees praying. Not only did I laugh, but it brought me hope that good would come from the economic troubles our nation has started having. May this crisis bring us all closer to God.

Lazy Blog Post Generator

Yesterday Ironic Catholic posted about Lazy Blog Post Generator, and posted a link to it. That's right, I am so lazy, I did not use lazy blog post generator until today! If you want to try it, click on the title of this post. If I messed up and that doesn't work, go to Ironic Catholic on my blogroll, and check out yesterday's post. You can link up there.

Goodness Gracious I just got slapped with a wet salmon - really - I have not updated this since people stopped clapping and Tinkerbell died... You would not believe the fairy dust I have to clean up. I prostrate myself in sorrow and beg thy forgiveness..

I am hopped up on caffeine with discovering time doesn't stand still, being distracted by the shiny, just generally being an embarrassment to the locals, my day is a magical flight from my partner kicking me out of bed to 11pm at which point I fall asleep on the couch. I am happy with that. Life happens.

I send you kisses I will make more of an effort to blog more often until the nice men in the white coats come back. You want to test me? What do you mean you don't believe me?

That was fun! Back to burying Tinkerbell....
