Yes Virginia, It is Possible to Have a Positive Commentary of the Editorial Page

This week I learned how much I like reading a positive, noncontroversial commentary in the newspaper. There are so few of those. Yesterday, the Chicago Suntimes published a commentary In Web age, libraries as important as ever. I haven't enjoyed reading the Letters to the Editor / Commentary page so much in ages. I am worn out from negativity in the news. But this article in praise of libraries gave me a warm happy feeling.
I shared that warm happy feeling by writing a letter to the editor praising the piece, and my local library (mainly my local library). I have been thinking about writing a blog post in praise of libraries for some time, but thought it might be too Geeky. Today is the day I wrote the letter / post.
Tomorrow I will share the letter. Today I just wanted to share how good it felt to dwell on something positive. I guess I learned I should do that more often.....

Here, here for some positive news. The world can get you down if you let it. Can't wait to read the letter!

so funny but I went to the speech final for one of my students because she got extra credit for each person that came with her. She did a 5 minute persuasive speech on why we should think positive.

Too geeky? You must forget who you are talking to...

Yay! I can't wait for the letter, either. I am loving our library again now that they FINALLY got the kids' section remodeled after it flooded last year. My kids got to be in the summer reading program for the first time this year, and they have loved it.

I love my library, and apparently everyone else around here does, too. It's always packed! I was just there today after seeing the doctor because they had a book on hold for me. (Ssshhh! Don't tell Katdish - it's Twilight) Yup, love my library.

When the kids were small, I took them throughout the summer. I don't go much myself anymore, but this has got me wanting to go again.

Thanks!

Helen, you are the ray of sunshine in our world. And I'm sure the letter was done in the most eloquent fashion of Helen. ;)

katdish, I never even realized how the negative was dragging me down until a commentary that was praising something uplifted me.
NtG, I always think of myself as realistic (with a sense of humor), but I think I need to think more positive myself. With my diet, for instance. The negative imprinting I've been doing on my own brain for years...I don't even know how that started...
Beth, I loved the summer reading program when I was a kid. I forgot about all the Children's programs I enjoyed back then...movies, parties, book clubs...
Wendy, we can request books online, and they'll have them ready for us at the front desk. Do you have that option? Or am I just spoiled?

Sherri, even if you are too busy to take time to read, the books on tape (or CD) are great to listen to while cooking and doing work around the house.
Annie K, thanks. You are such a super encourager!
JasonS, you know what's funny? How the negative can go unnoticed as such for so long...
Candy, thanks for the encouragement.

Helen, I am impressed with your blog. I was feeling sort of blah today until I heard "She Bangs" and read your comments.
