Hypocrisy and the Christmas Curmudgeon

All my talking and posting about advent, and guess who went to a Christmas party yesterday already? Moi! Friends invited me to to ICF Christmas party, where we ate, talked, and played Christmas Charades. I had a great time. I think I got along well with everyone, since I am being encouraged to pretend to be Italian, and join (actually they only require 51% of their membership to be Italian, and not their members to be 51% Italian, so I can be a Hungarian Pole if I want to, which of course, I do). The decorations were simple, candle centerpieces surrounded with ornaments, and that's it. We sang Christmas songs afterward. After we sang Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer, I suggested to the priest that we have gag misselettes made up with this song in it, and freak everyone out at Mass when the cantor says "Will everyone please turn to hymn 314 and join us in singing Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer." Then we could watch everyone, including the cantor, freak out, and those of us at the party would be the only ones in on the joke. My pastor has a good sense of humour, so he laughed instead of asking me to leave, or giving me a penance or something.
I agree with Beth that now is a perfect time to share songs that are meaningful to us this time of year. So, as the unofficial Galpal Blogger Christmas Curmudgeon, I will share with you my theme song now.

Thank you for that inspiring Christmas song! I might sing that this Sunday at my church!

You are crazy Helen. I love the idea about the fake misslette!

I have the type pastor that would actually try it! I love him!

Glad you had a good time "pretending to be Italian".

You know what we Italians always say...."there are Italians and then there are those that WISH to be Italian!"
(We're a pretty self-centered bunch, ntice our natioality starts with a CAPITAL "I"!)

Hey, but when we love ya', WE LOVE YA", and NO FOOD is better! And we love people, and parties, and always have something to say...what's NOT to love?

I actually had childhood nightmares about that particular scene from Rudolph, so thanks for helping me relive all of THAT! Can I call you at 3AM when I wake up drenched in a cold sweat?

Relax Katdish, this wasn't Rudolf. This was "The Year Without A Santa Claus". Nothing to be afraid of....there there...

I just wanted to stop in for a moment and thank you for the kind comment you left me as a result of seeing me on SCL.

It is, indeed, a comfort to know that others are out there experiencing many of the same things.

May God's peace be with you.

HA! This is pretty much Frank's favorite Christmas song. When we got married, I'd never seen this, and he made me sit down and watch it. Since then...many references to the cold and heat miser have been made.
I'm going to have to send this to him!

Hey, that's my cousin in the video!

Hi Annie! Which video, the one in the video bar with the real person demonstrating a sense of humor, or are we kidding around about heat miser and the Hungarian temperment (you know, mouth on the forehead when angry thing). The young man on the video on the side bar was really funny when he pretended to turn the dog into snow. I just loved that!

Uh, I can do the mouth on the forehead thing quite nicely thank you. And my kids know that if I start spewing Spanish phrases/commands at them I'm ticked. (yeah, I know, I'm weird that way but it's like therapy without sitting on the therapists couch). And I was referring to the 'heat miser'. Hungarians...!
